Soaring Silver Eagles

Often seen as a barometer of silver demand the US Mint’s Silver Eagle coin sales tell an interesting story amidst the bearish speculation put out by the big banks (who seem quite happy to buy up big at the ensueing lower prices..).  Since 2007 sales have quadrupled from 9.9m sales to last year’s all time record 42.7m sales.  Those that bought at the beginning of 2007 have seen a 59% return (USD, or 36% AUD) even after last year’s big 24% correction.  These numbers don’t even really reflect real demand as once a certain supply constraint is hit, the mint allocates on a rationing system.  That was the situation for most of last year.  Silver Eagles are available on line or in shop at Ainslie Bullion.
