2022 will bring us into the Year of the Tiger (?). In preparation, Perth Mint are releasing their much anticipated third instalment of Lunar Series III. Orders will be open on our webstore from 7am on Monday 13th of September. The coming year will see two iconic designs, one for Gold and Platinum, the other for Silver. Perth Mint have released total mintage numbers for a select number of weights. In today’s news, we are going to provide a full breakdown of everything that you need to know about the 2022 Perth Mint Lunar Series.

Precious metals holders born in 1998, 1986, 1974 and every 12th preceding year are Tigers at heart. So the story goes, the Mouse jumped on the Ox, a natural swimmer, and crossed on his back. Despite his aversion to the water, the Tiger used all of his strength to finish third.

The characteristics that the tiger displayed in the race across the river are those of courage, strength and skill. In addition, Tigers are said to be natural leaders blessed with charm and confidence. These same elements are embodied in the Reverse designs on both the Gold and Platinum Lunar Tiger Coins.

Initial Releases in Gold are for 10oz, 2oz, 1oz, ½ oz, 1/4oz and 1/10 oz. All will have an unlimited mintage, however the total mintage for each size will be announced at the end of production in 2022. The exception will be the 1oz Gold Coin which will be capped at 30,000 units. Similarly, the lone Platinum representative, the 1oz Platinum Coin will have a limited mintage of 5,000.

Silver coins will come out initially in denominations of 2oz, 1oz and 1/2 oz. While the 2oz and 1/2 oz coins will be produced on a mint-to-order basis, the 1oz will only see 300,000 released. The Reverse features a parent and cub duo, with the tiger cub following it’s proud and protective parent across a rocky terrain of ferns and bamboo.

All initially released coins will include an in-built security feature of a micro-engraved letter within the design. It is only detectable under a magnifying glass. Each coin will come in a protective acrylic capsule.

Each year the interest in the Lunar Series grows, and the limited mintages on certain lines certainly adds a dimension of intrigue.

Ainslie will as usual stock the full range with plenty of availability for any size order and we look forward to receiving your orders from Monday 13 September 2021.  Not coincidentally, we are running down now on many lines of the 2021 Year of the Ox coins so get in quick if you haven’t already secured yours.
